Rain Chances Early Wednesday

Today 3/18 – Partly Cloudy & Breezy – High 58˚ / Tonight – Iso’d Showers Late– Low 47˚

3pm 56˚ ~ 6pm 54˚ ~ 9pm 52˚ ~ 12am 52˚ ~ 3am 50˚ ~ 6am 47˚

Pesky stratus clouds are pretty much parked over Kentucky, and these clouds have lowered temperatures, ruining our shot at reaching the 60s this afternoon.

Day RuinedDay Ruined

There could be some breaks in the clouds later this afternoon, but overall skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy, with temperatures struggling to reach the mid to upper 50s.  As we head into this evening, southerly winds will increase to 10-15 mph ahead of an area of low pressure to our northwest.  Southerly winds will keep temperatures around 50 degrees tonight before a cold front moves in late.  Isolated showers will be possible late tonight after 3am as the cold front passes over us.

Wed – Scat’d AM Showers, Breezy – High 59˚ / Wed Night – Clear – Low 34˚

12Z NAM Simulated Reflectivity valid from 3AM tonight until 12PM Wednesday.
NAM Simulated Radar valid 3am – 12pm Wednesday

This cold front is very weak but will bring a chance of showers for southern Kentucky late tonight and into Wednesday morning.  Models continue to show light precipitation amounts and they are in pretty good agreement of the highest chance of showers occurring right around daybreak on Wednesday.  Here is what the latest run of the NAM model thinks the radar will look like from 3am tonight until noon tomorrow.

The chance for showers will last until midday tomorrow, and behind the passage of the cold front winds will turn to the west and it will be breezy once again with winds around 10-20 mph.  Wednesday will be another day of closely watching the cloud cover to see how quickly it moves out.

If clouds linger into the afternoon, temperatures will fall short once again.  However, the strong winds should help to push the clouds to our east and allow temperatures to reach the upper 50s by late afternoon.  By Wednesday night, skies will remain clear and lows will drop into the middle 30s. It is possible that some rural locations reach the freezing mark.

Thu – Sunny – High 62˚ / Thu Night – Clear – Low 38˚

Thursday will be a gorgeous day as surface high pressure keeps skies clear and temperatures will reach the 60s by Thursday afternoon.  Friday looks very similar with a chance for temperatures to reach 70 degrees.

Happy Dance

The next chance for rain is Friday night as another cold front will push through, but overall the ending of the work week looks fantastic.  That’s all I have for this afternoon.  For more frequent updates, be sure and check out @WxOrNotBG and @WarrenCountyWX on Twitter.  Enjoy the rest of the day.
