5 years ago, during the early morning hours of January 27th, 2009, a heavy wintry mix tracked across western and central Kentucky. This weather maker produced significant ice accumulations across the state. Check out this graphic from the Louisville NWS for a better idea of what parts of the state were impacted the hardest:
This winter storm produced damaging amounts of freezing rain across south central Kentucky, with a mix of sleet and freezing rain coinciding to take the biggest toll across the western tier of the Bluegrass. Below are a few images from this event:
