Tuesday Afternoon Update

Accumulation amounts across the region have ranged from a dusting – 1″, with a few localized areas seeing more.  This is perfectly in line with what was forecast.  I’ve received several photos from this event, some of which have made the Weather Gallery.  Be sure the check them out.  If you have a photo you’d like to submit, you can get them to me via Facebook or Twitter.

As for now, the cold front that brought this mess is now well to our east, leaving us with brutal northwesterly winds of 20-30+mph to deal with.  This has created wind chill values in the single digits across south central Kentucky.  Moderate snow showers that impacted the region this morning have followed the path of the front to our east, however, light snow showers and flurries may stick around through the afternoon.  I expect the cloud deck to eventually break up, allowing for a few rays of sunshine to poke through.  Here’s a look at how things are shaping up:

We will need to pay close attention to the roadways as the day progresses.  Temperature values are currently located in the mid 20s across the viewing area, and will continue to tumble through the night.  This will cause anything that melts to quickly refreeze, which will in turn will lead to treacherous travel through this time.  School doesn’t necessarily look like a for sure bet tomorrow.  I’ll leave it at that.  With hazardous travel becoming more of a concern, the NWS out of Louisville has issued a Travelers Advisory until further notice.  If you can, please avoid getting out on the roadways.

Skies will become partly cloudy overnight, as temperature values tumble into the single digits.  For our Wednesday, cloud cover should continue to break up, as high pressure settles in across our proximity.  Light, southwesterly winds should take temps back into the lower 30s tomorrow afternoon.

That will be all for today, folks.  Please keep in mind that frequent updates will be posted throughout the rest of today at @Wx_Or_Not.  You can stay in touch with me there.  Stay safe, and have a great remainder of your Tuesday.  Thanks for reading.
