SNOMG!!!

This Afternoon – Sunny – High 54˚ / Tonight – Scat’d Snow Showers Late – Low 25˚

3pm 54˚ ~ 6pm 41˚ ~ 9pm 34˚ ~ 12am 34˚ ~ 3am 31˚ ~ 6am 29˚

The remainder of today should be partly to mostly sunny and quiet.  Temperature values have catapulted into the lower 50s, making for a fantastic feel to the air.  A cold front is approaching from the north, which will bring drastically contrasting weather conditions come Tuesday.  Here’s a look at how the current surface conditions are shaping up:

Cloud cover will begin to increase overnight, as our next disturbance pushes in from the northwest.  As we near sunrise, scattered snow showers are forecast to accompany bitter temperatures.  The COLD snap is just around the corner.  The HRRR simulated radar loop below is valid from 9pm tonight – 1am Tuesday morning in 1-hour increments.  This gives us an idea of how this system may behave:

Tues – Scat’d AM Snow Showers, BLUSTERY – High 27˚ / Tues Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 11˚

**Winter Weather Advisory for Butler, Warren, Edmonson and Barren County from 12am – 12pm Tuesday**

Scattered snow showers are expected to impact south central Kentucky from roughly 2am – 10am Tuesday.  Accumulation amounts look to be minor at best (dusting – 1″).  As we’ve experienced with the past few clippers, these sporadic snow showers will be hit and miss.  Some of us will see nothing, while others receive light amounts.  Although these amounts are not impressive, the timing of the event does raise concerns regarding travel.

The quick hitting clipper is forecast to hit during the morning commute, when temperature values are forecast to be below freezing.  Please use caution on the morning commute.  Brisk, northwesterly winds of 20-30+mph will pester the region throughout our Thursday, resulting in wind chills in the teens.  DRESS WARM.  The GFS precip loop below is valid from 12am – 6pm Tuesday in 6-hour increments.  Hopefully this helps illustrate what may happen with this weather maker:

GFS Precip Loop Valid 12am - 6pm Tues
GFS Precip Loop Valid 12am – 6pm Tues

Wed – Partly Sunny – High 27˚ / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 16˚

High pressure will build over the area and give us a mix of sun and clouds to go along with bitter temps.  Nothing much  to talk about outside of that.  A weak disturbance passing to our northeast will increase cloud cover on Wednesday night, before a reinforcing high suppresses temperatures to around 20˚ on Thursday.

That’s all I’ve got for the time being, folks.  Stay connected with me @Wx_Or_Not for more frequent weather information regarding our snow chances.  Again, soak in the sun this afternoon while you still can.  The cold snap arrives tomorrow.  Thanks for reading.
