This Afternoon – Partly Sunny – High 56 / Tonight – Scat’d Showers – Low 38
4pm 56 ~ 7pm 50 ~ 10pm 48 ~ 1am 44 ~ 4am 40
Partly to mostly sunny skies will continue to accompany south central Kentucky this afternoon. As we get into this evening and overnight, scattered showers will reenter the forecast (similar to what we experienced last night). This will be in the wake of a weak disturbance passing across the region, thanks to northwest flow aloft.
Here is a look at the current surface model, which displays frontal positions and visible satellite. Sunny skies are in place, with our next weather maker approaching from our northwest:
Wed – Partly Cloudy – High 49 / Wed Night – Iso’d Showers – Low 37
7am 38 ~ 10am 42 ~ 1pm 46 ~ 4pm 48 ~ 7pm 43
Our cooling trend will continue thanks to Canadian air filtering in behind a reinforcing cold front that will slowly drift south across our area. This is evident on the latest 500mb (~18,000ft) model below, which is valid 1pm Wednesday afternoon. Notice the trough continuing to dig across the eastern US, filtering in much colder air:
Thu – Partly Cloudy, Iso’d Showers – High 51 / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 28
Lingering showers will hang around, with partly cloudy skies in place by the afternoon. Temperatures will once again be held to the 40s, making for very bitter conditions across the region. Expect a heavy frost/hard freeze Thursday night into Friday morning, so tend to those plants accordingly, friends.
That’s all I’m made of right now, gang. I shall return tomorrow morning with an updated look at our ever-evolving weather pattern.
