Cool Down Is Here

You will want these before the end of the work week... No, seriously.

Today – Partly Sunny – High 56 / Tonight – Scat’d Showers – Low 38

7am 41 46 ~ 10am 52 ~ 1pm 55 ~ 4pm 57 ~ 7pm 51

Partly to mostly sunny skies will be the story for today, with scattered showers reentering the forecast overnight. This will be in the wake of a shortwave disturbance passing across the region, thanks to northwest flow aloft taking shape behind the cold front.

Expect a cool down today, folks, as highs are limited to the upper 50s. Here is a look at the current surface model across the eastern US. Clockwise rotation from the area of high pressure will be responsible for our cooling trend:

Wed – Partly Cloudy – High 48 / Wed Night – Iso’d Showers – Low 37

7am 38 ~ 10am 42 ~ 1pm 46 ~ 4pm 48 ~ 7pm 43

Much cooler air will continue to filter across the region from the northwest, causing our temperatures to drop significantly. This is evident on the 500mb model below (valid 1pm Wednesday afternoon). Notice the trough in place across the eastern US, filtering in much colder air out of Canada:

Unseasonably cold temperatures look to persist through the end of the work week, with an isolated shower or two remaining in the forecast.

Thu – Partly Sunny, Iso’d Showers – High 47 / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 29

Lingering showers will stick around through the early part of our Thursday, with partly sunny skies in place by the afternoon.  Temperatures will once again be held to the 40s, making for very bitter conditions across the region.  Expect frost Thursday night, so tend to those plants accordingly, friends.
That will be all for now, gang.  I’ll be back this afternoon with a fresh analysis of the latest data.
