Winter Weather Threat Tonight

Good morning, everyone, and happy hump day! It’s been an active winter so far for WABBLES and that trend continues as we are tracking yet a winter weather threat for tonight. Keep reading for more details.

What to Expect Today

Heading out the door this morning, expect scattered rain showers to be dominating the region. These are formed out ahead of a cold front that is racing towards the state. The rain showers will gradually become heavier throughout the day with the heaviest bands tracking through the region beginning around 4pm and lasting into the evening. The high temperature today will reach around 46 degrees.

The threat for winter weather begins in the evening hours tonight as a cold front moves through tanking the temperatures. Temperatures will quickly drop below freezing, briefly transitioning the precipitation over from rain to freezing rain, and then dominantly snow by about the 9pm hour. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 6pm today to 7am tomorrow. The main threats here will be slippery roads caused by snow. and ice into the overnight and for the Thursday morning commute.

In terms of how much the area can expect to see in terms of snow accumulation, this value will be about 1 to 3 inches. The models are generally in agreement with these totals as opposed to the last system that rolled through on Sunday that had a good amount of model variability. One thing is for sure, and that is that any precipitation that falls past 9-10pm will be snow as the temperature will be dipping all the way to about 20 degrees. The snow will be to the east by sunrise tomorrow.

Wrapping Up the Week

To finish out your work week, Thursday and Friday will both be frigid with highs right around 30 degrees as a result of the cold front pushing arctic air into the region. These days will stay dry, and this theme is carried into the weekend.
