Good Friday morning WABBLES! It is a quiet start to our day which is something we can all appreciate. I have good news and bad news, the good news is the dangerous heat backs off today. The bad news is we may have to deal with strong to severe storms this afternoon. Let’s take a look at how today is shaping up.
Strong to Severe Storms Possible Today
This morning we have a weak remnant boundary we are watching co-located with weak 850 winds. This area of convergence will be the focus for storm development this afternoon and evening across the commonwealth.
Wind shear will be lacking today so these storms will have a limit on how strong they will be able to become. Although, with a “water logged” atmosphere and plenty of instability, it will not take for much for storms to produce intense downbursts later today.

Best chances for severe weather may setup just to our north where the low-level jet will be more prevalent.
A few storms may contain wind gusts 50-60mph and hail up to 1″.
The tornado threat is very low today because of weak wind fields aloft, this will be primarily a wind and hail threat.
A slight risk for severe weather has been posted for today.
Looking at future radar you can see that clusters of showers and storms will begin developing by mid-afternoon. The best coverage in storm activity will most likely be north of WABBLES, but we will likely see a few storms this afternoon.
Rainfall amounts will be wide ranging from some folks getting missed to others picking up close to 1″ under heavy thunderstorms. Here is how it could look by this evening.
Weekend Outlook
The cold front will finally sweep through Friday night and move to our south. This will bring much needed relief from the heat in the coming days. Highs in the mid-upper 80s are expected through Sunday.
Isolated storm chances will be possible through the weekend as the front will still be lingering across Tennessee. This boundary will then come back northward as a warm front as then Tropical Storm Fred moves out of the Gulf of Mexico.
Tropical Depression Fred
This system will not be a big rain maker for WABBLES, that is very clear right now. Most of the heavy rain will stay on the east side of the storm. Although, we will see moisture surge back into the area and increase out storm chances into next week. Here is how the system will track over the next 5 days.
Here is look at the 7 day rainfall forecast with the heaviest rain staying to our east. It still looks like we will see a beneficial rain through next week .
