Severe Threat Remains

Gooood morning, WABBLES! We’ve started off May 2021 on a wet start so far and we will look to continue that trend today as the severe threat remains from yesterday and lasts through this evening. This morning’s weather was enough to know that today is going to be interesting!

Widespread Rain This Morning

We have rounds of widespread rain moving through the region this morning as a part of a large band of convection extending from Louisville all the way down to the Tennessee border. Folks are likely seeing very heavy rain, moderate winds, and a few rumbles of thunder on their morning commutes. Expect these storms to have moved out by 10AM.

Intense rain rates could lead to flash flooding throughout the day.

Throughout the afternoon, we will get a bit of a break from the action as we will predominantly see mostly cloudy skies with the high reaching around 78 degrees. From about 4pm on, it appears our strong to severe weather risk is in full force as supercells and stronger lines begin to move through the region.

HRRR reflectivity showing show no precipitation moving through the area in the afternoon hours. You can see the bands and cells approaching the region, however. (Pivotal Weather)

Highlighted below is the severe threat outlined by the Severe Prediction Center (SPC). Most WABBLES region is at a slight risk to see severe weather with the main threats in store being gusty winds, flash flooding, isolated hail, and a few possible tornadoes. As with yesterday, be sure to have two ways of receiving weather watches and warnings.

Expect heavy rain to stick around through midnight giving way to scattered, isolated showers after this point. The low will be around 53.

Mid-Week Clearing

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be chillier than normal as a result of a cold frontal passage. On top of this, as the storms move out, high pressure moves in giving way to clearing. All will see a high in the mid 60s.

Even though we will be below average, later this week, the long trend suggest we can expect above average temperature anomalies. (CPC)
