Extensive Dry Period Ahead of Us

Welcome back to the blog everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. It was quite windy yesterday with max gusts reaching upwards of 35 mph here in Bowling Green! Well, winds have calmed down today and we look to have an extensive dry period ahead of us.

Beautiful Spring Day Today

We officially reached 80° last week for the first time this year! Weekend showers knocked those temperatures back down into the more seasonable range, but with the sunshine they were able to warm up a little bit.

We can expect a lot more sunshine today, and this time it won’t be super windy! Highs will also warm into the mid 70’s, which is right around average for this time of year. A quiet spring day to say the least.

Overnight, temperatures look to drop to near 50° as we see a few clouds roll in, but otherwise we will stay dry.

Little Rain Chances in the Coming Days

Believe it or not, we are about to enter a relatively quiet period weather-wise here in Southern Kentucky. Models are showing a stable pattern develop in the upper atmosphere, which will make it harder for disturbances to roll through and bring precipitation.

What’s important to look at here is the straight lines over Kentucky. This essentially shows us that there isn’t a lot of movement going on in the atmosphere. (Pivotal Weather)

This upper-air pattern will keep the same weather patterns around for a while. Tuesday will feature more sunshine with a few intermittent clouds, but dry nonetheless. Temps actually drop some into the mid 60’s, which is back to below average territory.

The rest of the week will also see plenty of sunshine and dry conditions with temperatures continuing to drop into the low to mid 60’s. The Climate Prediction Center thinks we will see below average precipitation for a while, even into next week!

The CPC thinks most of the country will be drier than normal even into this weekend and next week! Only Florida looks to be pretty wet. (Pivotal Weather/CPC)
