Windy and Wet Today, Calm and Dry Tomorrow

Good morning to you, South Central Kentucky! Today’s post will consist of precautions to take under a wind advisory, when to expect precipitation, and a look at how the holiday tomorrow will be. (Spoiler: today and tomorrow’s forecasts are like night and day as far as conditions go.)

Threat for Damaging Winds Today

Today, we are under a wind advisory until 4pm. This is due to a troublesome low pressure system that will be moving through our area. As the cold front associated with it approaches, wind gusts will have the potential to reach up to 30-40 mph and possibly even higher locally.

If you have any exterior belongings that may be directly impacted by this threat, we advise that you move them indoors for the safety of everyone. Be cautious when on the road, too, as tree limbs could be blown down. We may see some power outages from this as well, so be prepared just in case!

Moreover, the presence of a frontal passage will also bring about chances for precipitation. This morning, we may see the development of showers as early as 7am. These will be sporadic until about noon, producing trace amounts of rainfall.

However, there won’t be much of a break, as more pop-up’s will form in the early afternoon and stick around until the evening. There’s a chance that some strong storms may be sprinkled in this second round, though the main threat associated with these will be damaging winds.

As I’m sure you suspected, skies will be cloudy throughout the day and clear up once the showers and storms have left our vicinity. Although it may not feel like it because of the winds, temperatures will stay rather high, reaching the upper 60’s and dropping to the upper 40’s.

With the exception of a brief amount of time where the cold front passes through, we will have a lack of moisture in the air, making for rather comfortable conditions.

A Look at Turkey Day

Fortunately, any and all of the precipitation that we will see this week will take place throughout the entirety of today. In other words, we hope that your turkey isn’t as dry as the weather is going to be! Below is short, but always sweet, summary of what’s to come.
