Good Friday morning, Kentucky! The next 24-48 hours are about to bring active weather across the area. We have multiple threats that we are monitoring with the remnants of Laura on final approach.
The National Hurricane Center issued the final advisory this morning for Tropical Depression Laura. The center of low pressure is located over Northeast Arkansas and will continue to push our direction.
Today
We have a few showers out there to start out our Friday morning. The heaviest rain will likely hold off until later today as the center of the low approaches the area. Here is how the radar may look today.
Looking at satellite this morning we may see a few peeks of sun before the torrential downpours move in later today. A dry slot is forcing its way northward and should help us become partly cloudy late morning/early afternoon. Storms develop later today.
Heavy Rain Threat
Flash Flood Watch in effect from noon until 1am Saturday.
All of our WABBLES communities has been placed under a Flash Flood Watch for this afternoon and through the evening. Heavy rainfall rates with totals ranging from 1-3in will cause flash flooding issues later today.
Flooding seems to always be an issue around here with people getting stuck by driving through flooded roadways. A road covered in water is never worth the risk, no matter the size of your vehicle. You never know what is under the water and it’s certainly not worth your life to find out. I am pretty sure all the folks that have got stuck at Fairview Plaza will not be taking that chance again!
We are under a slight risk today for flash flooding, which means you have a 10-20% chance of exceeding flash flood guidance. This gives the likelihood that a flash flood warning will be issued for a certain area.
Severe Threat
WABBLES is under a marginal risk for severe weather this afternoon. There is the potential for a few spin-up tornadoes, especially across Tennessee. This is a very conditional threat but is something we will monitor closely.
Saturday
We should see conditions begin to improve on Saturday as most of this will push out by the afternoon. Scattered showers and storms will still be possible.
