Hot Start to the Week, But Followed By Showers

Good Sunday morning, y’all! Welcome to Sunday, the start of a new week. Hope everyone has been staying cool! We’ll have a hot start to the week, but followed by showers later on. Relief may be on the horizon!

Heat Advisory Today

The NWS has placed us under a Heat Advisory from 11am to 7pm tonight. The combination of hot air temperatures and oppressive dew points will make for heat indices around 102°.

That kind of heat can be dangerous! Highs today look to end up in the mid 90’s, but with those heat indices above 100°, avoid spending too much time outdoors! The sunny conditions will be beautiful today, but it’s probably best to stick inside with the A/C.

Get Out and See NEOWISE!

In case you didn’t know, NASA’s spacecraft Neowise discovered a comet earlier this year, and it’s visible to the naked eye! Starting around dusk, if you look towards the northwest, you can find this spectacle near the horizon under the Big Dipper.

Here is a guide for seeing NEOWISE. Tonight the comet will be about halfway between the horizon and the Big Dipper. (EarthSky)

Tonight will be a great opportunity to see the comet, as we are expecting mostly clear skies and lows in the mid 70’s. Make sure to head somewhere away from city lights and big trees, and look for a fuzzy streak. Binoculars could help, because depending on where you are, it could be very faint! Check out this website for more detailed info.

Rain Chances Come This Week

As we head into Monday, an approaching cold front will begin to stall, which will change up our environment. This stationary boundary will bring a slight chance of showers during the afternoon hours.

A slight chance of showers is possible Monday, but the stationary front will keep rain chances around. (WPC)

This setup will also keep rain a possibility throughout the week, which means some heat relief! Highs Monday remain toasty in the low 90’s, but areas that receive rain could see a slight cooldown. I’ll take any cooldown at this point!

That finishes today’s forecast. Thanks for reading! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotBG, as well as on Facebook, for all your weather updates. Stay cool!
