Good morning, everyone, and happy Memorial Day! As we remember those who sacrificed their lives for us back home, make sure to keep social distancing, but also enjoy the day! Although it will be warm, spotty showers are possible for Memorial Day and beyond.
Memorial Day Tornado Outbreak: 1 Year Anniversary
Around this time in 2019, our neighbors to the north rode out an active evening of tornadoes. Ohio saw almost 20 confirmed tornadoes in a single day, which broke the state record for most tornadoes produced by a single event.
The strongest was an EF-4 that tore through Trotwood, OH. If you want to learn more about this tornado outbreak, there’s great information from NWS Wilmington.
Sunny Start, but Pop-Ups Possible
As for us here in 2020, we won’t be expecting any tornadoes this Memorial Day. But with that being said, some afternoon pop-up thunderstorms aren’t out of the picture.
Before the storms fire, though, we’ll see some sunshine in the morning hours. This will help heat up the atmosphere and bring our highs near 90°!
As the sun sets, storms should start to clear out and leave us under mostly cloudy skies. Cool overnight temperatures will end up in the mid 60’s.
Staying Warm and Wet This Week
As we head into Tuesday, temperatures will cool off slightly into the mid 80’s for highs. This accompanies a chance for showers, once again during the afternoon hours.
The same holds true for Wednesday as temperatures end up around the average mark at 80°. Showers look to be possible around lunchtime, with some thunderstorms possible in the afternoon.
A cold front is set to move through on Thursday, which will cool our temperatures back down into the 70’s. We could also see a few dry days as we approach the end of the week.
