Warm Weather Brings Weekend Storm Chances

It took awhile, but it appears Spring has finally made it’s return to the WABBLES area the back half of this week. Now, the old saying is “April showers bring May flowers”, but it’s looking more like we’ll be dealing with some May showers…and thunderstorms. A couple of systems will be moving through the area, so this warm weather brings weekend storm chances.

Multiple Storm Chances Friday

Thursday was a wonderfully warm day between storm chances as we saw dry skies and temperatures reaching close to the mid 80s! We’ll see similar temperatures today…along with a two-fold rain chance.

A decaying line of once-severe storms will be making a run at the region during the morning hours. Not a great chance they make it here, but their leftover boundaries will serve as the focus for morning shower and storm chances as you wake up.

The morning showers should exit around noon and that will allow our temperatures to top out near 85° once again, thanks to more gusty south winds. But, we’re not finished win the rain just yet: a cold front brings more chances for this afternoon and evening.

We’ve got enough heat and humidity around as energy so we can’t rule out a brief damaging wind gust from these storms…but the environment isn’t really conducive to widespread severe weather. The storms will eventually taper off later in the nighttime hours, as we fall back to around 61° for a low.

Summer-like Pattern Continues Saturday

More of the same on Saturday, as it appears today’s front just kinda gets hung up around the area. So more warmth and more storms to start the weekend.

That front will be the focus for more afternoon shower and thunderstorm activity. Just like a summer afternoon, you know the drill. We’ll warm up to around 85° and you’ll be dodging those scattered storms. It won’t be as windy as yesterday, which is the good news. The bad news is that those dew points will be up near 65°…we’ve got a reading on the muggy meter.

Showers and storms will taper back to a mostly cloudy skies as we lose the daytime heating overnight…we’ll settle around 65°.

Same on Sunday

We went from early spring to early summer in the bat of an eye and as such, we’ll keep the summer feel around to close out the weekend.

The pattern stays shifted. (Pivotal Weather)

Our eyes are back to the west on Sunday as we wait to see what yet another storm system will bring the region. Well, it’ll bring rain and storms, but the main question is when.

NAM stays early. (Pivotal Weather)
NAM stays early. (Pivotal Weather)

The NAM allows us to get near those highs around 85° before bringing showers and storms through here in the early evening hours. Should this be the case, we can’t rule out a strong storm or two.

GFS says late night rumblers. (Pivotal Weather)

The GFS, on the other hand, thinks this system will hold off a little bit more into the late evening/overnight hours. If so, showers and storms remain a possibility but will likely pack just a heavy rain threat. Either way, lows stay mild, around 60°.

Rain Chances Continue Next Week

We’re not yet done with the rain as disturbance after disturbance promises more of the wet stuff each day as we turn the calendar into next week. Highs will be slightly cooler, though, as Monday only tops about 70°, but the heat slowly builds back and we’re pushing 80° again by late next week.

That just about does it for me! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotbg for the latest updates on this weekend’s rain and storm threats. Have a terrific Friday and stay safe!
