Below Normal Temperatures Stay Around for WABBLES

Good Wednesday morning folks! After what was a warm start to May, yesterday was the first day of cooler temperatures. Unfortunately, this trend of below normal temperatures will stay around for WABBLES.

Decreasing Clouds for Today

Taking a look at current radar, we can see light rain showers are exiting the WABBLES region. Luckily for us, this will be the end of the rain.

High pressure will be diving down into the Nebraska/Kansas area, helping to bring northwest flow to our area. These northwest winds will be gusty at times, up to 15 mph for today.

With skies becoming partly sunny later today, temperatures look to stay cooler, thanks to these strong northwest winds. Expect our temperatures to only reach near 59ºF for today. Normal high temperatures for early May is around 75ºF, so we’ll be much cooler.

Skies become completely clear by the nighttime hours, allowing temperatures to dip to a cool 42ºF. Winds should calm down as well.

Beautiful Sunshine for Thursday

The high pressure will continue to quickly dive further south. By tomorrow, the high will be located over the Deep South. Because of this, winds will transition from the northwest (for today) to the west (for tomorrow).

The beautiful sunshine will help warm us up a bit more, but we should still remain cooler than normal. Expect our high for tomorrow to top out around 66ºF, still remaining below normal. Clouds will eventually begin to increase by the evening hours.

Rain chances return during the overnight hours, most likely during the early morning hours on Friday.

Rain Chances for Friday

Our next low pressure system will quickly approach and bring our next rain chances. Rain should begin before we wake up, but will continue throughout the morning and afternoon hours.

Temperatures will once again be very chilly, possibly staying in the 50s. This will make for the fourth day in a row of below normal temperatures. Rain showers should exit WABBLES by the late afternoon hours, and we should be dry in time for the Friday evening sunset.

Clear skies will return for Friday night, but temperatures will get rather cold. Expect our Friday night temperatures to dip down to around 36ºF. We may need to cover our plants from potential frost, but stay tuned to future wxornotBG posts.

Cooler Temperatures Expected to Continue

The Climate Prediction Center issued their latest forecast, and it calls for below normal temperatures for May 11-15.

Cooler temperatures expected for May 11-15 timeframe

While this isn’t ideal for mid-May, the only concern I have is for possible frost on a cold night that could damage plants and vegetation. Stay tuned.

That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Wednesday! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter, only at @wxornotBG.
