Another Wet Start to the Week

As per the latest numbers, Bowling Green has received 4.40″ inches of rain this month so far (a surplus of 2.10″), bringing the total on the young year to 9.16″ of rain, a surplus of 3.25″ above average. Comparing this to last year on this date, we’re actually slightly behind the 2019 year-to-date total of 9.60″…but we’ve got time to make it up because we’re looking at another wet start to the week.

Cloudy but Mostly Dry Presidents’ Day

Much like this great nation’s first President, George Washington (whose birthday is the real federal holiday), I cannot tell a lie and tell you it will be a perfect day today. But it will be a touch cloudier than what felt like the first three day stretch in four score and seven years to not see any rainfall.

Clouds thinned as the sun set last night but they’re poised to move back into the region thanks to gusty south winds supplying us with an influx of warmth and moisture. This also means we’ll end up near 60º for a high today.

But all good things must come to an end and for us that means the return of rain showers into the late evening. Not expecting overly heavy rain, but another good soaking looks to be possible heading into Tuesday.

With the showers moving in overnight and the southerly breezes, lows fall back to a mild 55º (which is still 4 degrees warmer than our average mid-February high).

Early Tuesday Downpours End a Bit Wintry?

As can be gleaned from the gif above, the greatest chance for showers will be early Tuesday morning. As the system begins to push off to the east, we’ll see the showers diminish through the morning hours.

This will be one of those odd days, though, where the high temperature occurs in the early morning. As the front passes through, winds will shift back to the northwest during the morning hours. The high will likely go down somewhere near 55º and temperatures will slowly fall to about 50º by the afternoon.

Northerly breezes help usher in the cold again as lows fall overnight to around 35º. Not out of the question that some residual moisture could result in a few flurries late Tuesday night. They wouldn’t amount to much, but they’d be pretty to look at.

Latter Half of the Week Looking Better

We’ll get our system out of here by Wednesday and we’ll be left with a dry and slightly below average afternoon for hump day.

Lows will be even chillier on Wednesday night as a dry frontal boundary will usher in even colder weather. Lows dip down to near 30º with the clouds sticking around. More sunshine looks to be in the cards for the end of the week, but highs stay below average in the low 40s while overnight lows stay chilly in the lower 20s.
