One Last Cloudy Day of 2019

A tough area of low pressure hanging around north of us is keeping the overcast with us as we close out another decade…simply put: one last cloudy day of 2019.

That pesky low pressure that keep it cloudy yesterday is hanging in the same spot today throwing more clouds our way.

Since we’re still technically on the back side of the cold front that went through late Sunday, strong westerly breezes are still in full effect, keeping air temperatures cool and wind chills cooler. Combine the clouds and our high ends up near normal…about 45°.

Air temperatures might end up near 45°, but those wind chills will wind up closer to 35° or so thanks to winds gusting upwards of 25 MPH. We start to lose some of the cloud cover late tonight as the new year draws closer. So if you’re headed out to celebrate…bundle up as lows only end up near 30°.

It will be chilly at midnight as we ring in 2020, but after sunrise, sunshine and a slightly warmer airmass will take over for us.

With that high pressure off to the south and east, expect lighter breezes but bringing in some slightly warmer air from the south and west. This will lead to highs up closer to about 48° under mostly sunny skies, for a not-unpleasant start to the year.

However, clouds begin to increase as we head into the overnight hours ahead of our next big weathermaker (read: rainmaker). Low temperatures respond, only falling to about 38°.

Another Rainy End of The Week

When you’re in the Ohio Valley, it seems like a heavy-ish rain event is never more than a few days away (this past September notwithstanding) and that is definitely the case for us on Thursday.

Warmer and more moist air will be filtering into the area and as a low pressure moves toward the area, that will spark showers as early as Thursday morning.

A couple of rounds of rain will be moving through during the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday, with the possibility of an inch or so of rain falling through the day. Highs stay warm right around 50°. Rain looks to continue overnight, lows falling only to about 45°.

Warm and Showery Close to the Week

Friday will be an even warmer day as rain chances wane to scattered showers during the day as the main system begins shifting off to the east.

Even with the showers, it will be a warm close to the week, with highs ending up near 60°.

Rain chances will wane throughout the day and into the evening hours as overnight lows fall behind the front to about 35°.

Back to Average for the Weekend

The good news is the rain will be moving out as we head for the weekend and the sunshine will return as temperatures end up back near normal.
