Sunday Soaker Followed by Cooler Temperatures

Good morning, folks! Today is the last day of the mild temperature streak. I would say to go out and enjoy it but today’s weather forecast may make that a little difficult. This is due to today’s Sunday soaker followed by cooler temperatures later in the week.

Rain, Rain, Go Away

Sorry, WABBLES, but the rain will not let up today. A large cold front is moving across the region making your Sunday a very wet one. Heavy rain is expected all day with a few thunderstorms possible which could produce even heavier rainfall. The area is under a marginal risk for severe storms. About an inch of rain is expected in total for the day. The high will reach near 67 degrees with wind gusts out of the south reaching 28 mph. Hang on to the umbrella!

Localized flooding is a possibility so the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the area through 11pm tonight.

The wind remains gusty tonight reaching 24 mph but the rain does not look to stick around past midnight. New rainfall amounts will only be about 0.5-1 inch with the low near 42 degrees. By the time the system moves out, most areas will have totaled about 2 inches of rain with a few areas reaching 3 inches.

Sunny Skies, Cooler Temperatures

As we approach the New Year, temperatures become a little bit more seasonal accompanied by sunny skies. The fall in temperatures will be a result of the cold front moving its way out of the region. Monday looks to be quite breezy with gusts close to 30 mph. The high will be around 50 degrees with lots of sunshine making for a great day to fly a kite (if you wanted to.) The low will be 33 degrees in the night with partly cloudy skies.

Even though temperatures are starting to drop, WABBLES is still sitting above average for this time of the year. According to the Climate Prediction Center, we will continue to see above average temperatures for the next week or so.

New Years Eve and New Years Day looks to be a similar story, just with less wind. New Years Eve will be mostly sunny with a high of 44 degrees. To ring in the New Year, it will also be mostly sunny with a high near 48 degrees. Both nights will be partly cloudy with Tuesday night’s low at 29 degrees and the Wednesday night low at 35 degrees.
