Active Weekend Means Rain Chances

It’s been a fairly quiet week around south-central Kentucky weather-wise, with only our fluctuations in temperatures keeping things interesting around here. Finishing up the week, though, interesting is going to be the name of the game as an active weekend means rain chances.

Sogginess For Friday

Our next weather system will be making headway into the region during the day today, especially this afternoon.

We’re waking up to cloudy skies over WABBLES this morning and come afternoon, we’ll see our greatest chances for a few showers to move through the region.

This isn’t a particularly powerful system, so we’re not talking about heavy rain or high rainfall amounts. This will be more of a nuisance-type of rain.

The clouds and rain should keep temperatures once again right around where they should be for this time of year, if not just a touch warmer than that. We should top out right around 50º this afternoon. That also means lows will be a bit warmer as scattered shower chances continue. We’ll bottom out around 40º or so.

A Saturday Between Systems

Any lingering showers should taper off during the morning hours on our Saturday and after that…we’ll be left with a cloudy and breezy start to the weekend.

The front won’t have moved our temperatures a whole lot for Saturday afternoon as we’ll end up close to 50º once again during the afternoon.

However, those westerly winds will start to calm down as Saturday afternoon turns to Saturday evening. With the calm winds, we’ll cool off a bit more too, even with mostly cloudy skies overhead. Lows should dip to around 32º.

Sunday Starts Dry, Ends…Not Dry

Our next, more powerful weather system will begin to makes it’s way into the region by the day on Sunday…and that’s when things get interesting.

We’ll start Sunday out on the dry side as we warm up from those morning lows near freezing. Cloud cover will increase, though, as a strong system makes it’s way toward the region.

Showers could start infiltrating the region during the afternoon hours Sunday as we only climb to about 40º for a high. Rain chances increase overnight Sunday and into Monday as lows hold steady near 40º Sunday night and highs rise quickly for Monday.

Strong Storms Monday?

Current indications are that we’ll be firmly in the “warm sector” as we wake up Monday. This will lead to a mild and breezy day on Monday as highs reach back to near 50º and wind gusts could approach 25 MPH or so.

Because we’ve got so much wind energy aloft in the atmosphere, it’s not out of the question we could see a few storms with gusty winds rear their heads Monday afternoon. Not a certainty at this points, but we’re watching it. Yesterday, the Storm Prediction Center had us in a Slight Risk (2 on a scale of 5) for severe weather on Monday afternoon. They have moved that further south in today’s update.

Once this threat moves on out, we’ll break the sunshine back out and re-introduce those below average temperatures for the middle of next week.
