Mornin’ folks, and welcome to wxornotBG! It’s been a rather gloomy start to the week, but luckily we’ll get to see a few rays of sun today. We can expect a quiet Wednesday before rain showers arrive.
One More Day of Quiet Weather
Some folks are waking up to some fog this morning. The National Weather Service in Louisville issued a Dense Fog Advisory last night for Butler County, and is set to expire at 9am today.
Our Nolin Lake Dam Cam shows fog this morning over the lake. Conditions will clear out later this morning.
Surface high pressure is located over the Ohio Valley, but will soon be pushed out by the next approaching system. We should see some increased sunshine today, but clouds will once again be moving in later today. With calm winds, our temperatures will reach the mid 50s for this afternoon.
Skies will become mostly cloudy this evening and tonight. With light southeast winds expected, our temperatures will bottom out around 40ºF overnight/early tomorrow morning.
Rain Showers Arrive Thursday
A low pressure system moving across Michigan will drag a cold front stretching from Michigan all the way down to Texas across the US. This system will bring our next chance of rain showers.
The Euro and GFS models seem to be in good agreement that the rain showers will be in extreme western Kentucky (Paducah area) by the 7am morning commute. Showers will continue across KY, eventually arriving by late morning/noon.
We should get a break from showers during the mid to late afternoon/evening hours. During the afternoon, temperatures will reach around 61ºF. Winds will also be gusting up to 30 mph, so an umbrella will be hard to control.
Models hint at another round of showers arriving around midnight. Winds will continue to be gusty at times, along with some moderate showers. Low temperature will be around 47º.
Cold Front Arrives on Friday
Our heaviest rain showers look to come Friday morning when the front passes through the area. The graphic below is for 7am on Friday, so don’t forget the umbrella for your morning commute.
Rain showers will continue throughout the day, but will decrease in intensity after lunchtime. We should reach close to 55º before the front actually arrives, but after it does, a wind shift and cool down will also arrive.
Rain showers will continue into the evening hours after the front passes. Winds will be out of the north by the nighttime hours, so temperatures will drop to a chilly and damp 37º. More rain showers will be possible after midnight and into Saturday morning.
