Good Saturday morning, friends! Welcome to the weekend. The surface high and upper ridge that has kept us under unseasonably warm and dry conditions looks to linger for a few more days, but brief, and welcome, changes seem to be on the horizon.
Sunny Saturday
The upper ridge and associated high pressure is still making its presence known. For the month of September, our daily highs are averaging around 91 degrees. Our Saturday high doesn’t look to deviate much from that at a toasty 90 degrees. Limited cloud cover will help bring those temperatures up, but low dew points and a breeze will help keep conditions tolerable.
Another result of low cloud cover is that radiational cooling will bring our lows tonight into the cool low 60’s. At least our low temperatures are near average!
Ridge Breaks Down Sunday
The moment we’ve all been waiting for! A few models are showing the ridge we’re under finally starts to break down on Sunday. However, we will see one more above average day with highs in the upper 80’s. The sun sticks around, too, which continues the development of drought across Kentucky as a whole.
Sunday night/Monday morning lows will settle around 70 degrees for the morning commute.
Average Temperatures Return…
A shortwave trough that will move through the Great Lakes region will drag a cold front across our area Sunday night into Monday. As a result, cooler temperatures, and even a chance for rain, will follow close behind it. Winds will shift with the passage of the front to the northwest, brining our highs down to mid-80’s, which is average for September.
We could also see a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms Monday morning as the front rolls through, but nothing significant. I’ll take any rain at this point though! Lows Monday night could reach as low as the upper 50’s. Perfect timing for the first day of fall!
…But Another Ridge Builds
Just when we thought fall was here to stay, it’s not. We’ll have another near-average day Tuesday before things start to heat up again. Many models are showing another ridge building over the eastern US as we move through next week, which is indicative of rising temperatures.
Our official start to autumn looks to be hot and dry. We’ll keep watching it to see exactly how hot and how dry.
