Still Hot and Still Humid but with Fewer Storms

South-central Kentucky remains firmly ensconced within a typical summertime pattern as the calendar has turned to July and we’ll see most of that continue into the second full week of the month…with one difference. The forecast is still hot and still humid but with fewer storms.

Storms Scattered About Sunday

The good news is that we won’t have big storm chances this afternoon, but they will be there as a front moves through the region. The bad news, of course, is that it will remain hot and humid…surprise, surprise.

Highs will work their way back up to around 90° this afternoon before storms attempt to develop. The NAM has been implying that the focus for storms will be more to our east, but it all depends on where the front sets up and when.

So be on the look out for any scattered storms that bubble their way up this afternoon. Any storms that do develop should diminish past sunset as we’re left with a muggy overnight low of 70°.

Dry but Hot and Muggy to Start the Week

The front will do two things for us. 1.) Usher in dryer weather and 2.) Knock those dew points down a touch. We’ll break out into sunny skies during the morning hours on Monday as winds shift north and that will usher in a slightly less moist regime (think dew points in the upper 60s to near 70° rather than closer to 75°), making it feel ever so slightly better. Despite this…it’s still summer.

This trend should hold for not just Monday, but Tuesday as well. Mostly sunny afternoons with highs a few degrees either side of 90° and heat indices climbing back toward 95°. Nary a storm in sight.

Overnight lows remain right around a steamy 70° to begin the second full week of July.

Steamier for Midweek

We look to be under the influence of another weathermaker headed our way for Wednesday. This will give those dew points a kick back closer to the mid 70s, driving those afternoon heat indices closer to 100° when combined with temperatures between 91-93°. In addition, storms may be back on the horizon before a slightly longer break takes hold for later in the week.

Did you say “a slightly longer break”? (Stranger Things/Giphy, in case you haven’t yet figured out what I spent the long weekend watching)
