After a night of boomers on Friday night, with many reports of wind damage across the area, Mother Nature’s fury isn’t done yet with more strong storms possible today.
Slight Risk Today
We’re already starting this morning off on the stormy side.
Another complex of thunderstorms is working it’s way southeastward through the area, bringing with it the potential for heavy rainfall and maybe winds 35-40 MPH. The good news is that this particular cluster of storms, or MCS, has reached us in the cool part of the day when there’s not as much fuel to strengthen them. But that doesn’t mean you can’t catch a gust or two.
This won’t be our only opportunity for storms today, however. It just depends on how fast these storms clear out of the area. Once the rain and storms clear out of here, we’ll be in a bit of a lull this afternoon. This will allow temperatures to warm and the atmosphere to destabilize a bit, which could lead to more strong storms later.
The HRRR wants to give us an afternoon lull before firing up another storm cluster that could affect the western parts of our area, while the NAM is a bit more ambiguous.
Either way, the potential will be there with any storm that gets going to produce gusty winds and heavy rain. We’re under a Slight Risk (2/5) for severe weather this afternoon. Same threats as yesterday, with an emphasis on heavy rainfall.
Otherwise, after a high pushing 90º today, we’ll keep the mugginess and storm chances rolling through the night as lows don’t fall much below 75º.
Again, But More Scattered, on Sunday
Another disturbance will track through the area tomorrow afternoon, providing another chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms to work through the area, but at this point…it’s not looking as widespread as yesterday and today.
Outside of the potential for boomers, it’s going to be rather hot and sticky. Highs are going to make another run at 90º and with so much moisture and humidity in the air, heat indices may reach or exceed the 100º mark. Basically…find some fun indoor activities to engage in tomorrow. All of that heat and humidity will also help out the strong storm potential. We’re back in a Marginal Risk (1/5) for tomorrow.
Overnight, we fall to another muggy low of about 71º as storms continue to roam on.
One More Stormy Day Monday
One last disturbance will work through here during the day on Monday, and frankly, I’m ready for the storms to end.
The potential will be there in the afternoon for more scattered showers and storms, potentially forming on the leftover boundary from earlier storms in the morning. Some of these could be strong as well. We’re under yet another Marginal Risk (1/5) for Monday afternoon.
We should keep the clouds around a little more on Monday, which should keep our highs closer to 85º than 90º…not that I’m complaining about that. Overnight lows are back near 70º as storms exit.
Dry Skies are Finally Back
We’re finally going to bust this pattern up with some sunshine as we head toward the middle of the week. Mostly sunny skies return by Tuesday and will last us through the end of the week.
Can’t rule out a shower Thursday or Friday, but nothing like we’ve had. The only bad news is that summer heat and humidity will be back, with highs flirting with 90º each day.
That just about does it for me! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotbg for the latest updates on renewed storm chances this afternoon. Have a terrific Saturday!
