It’s feeling more like July than late May around south-central Kentucky the last few days and unfortunately that will continue as we’ll see a sweltering kickoff to Memorial Day weekend.
More Frying on Friday
High pressure continues to hang out to our southwest as we finish up this work week.
This will continue to allow hot and humid conditions to infiltrate the area throughout the day and keep everybody either indoors with air conditioning or outside in or near a pool.
Highs will once again top out around 90º or so and with dew points into the 70s it wouldn’t shock me to see heat indices closer to 95º.
I can’t rule out an isolated afternoon storm, but I wouldn’t count on it. Just remember that if you have to be outdoors, wear light, loose-fitting clothing, drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks and always check the backseat of the car for little and/or furry ones.
Overnight, we’ll stay mostly clear and fall to a mild and muggy overnight low near 70º.
Deja Vu for Saturday
Yep, this is essentially the same forecast, fairly remarkably consistent for even late May. Sunny skies remain overhead as high pressure stays in control across much of the southeast.
High temperatures will remain around 92º during the afternoon hours, with heat indices closer to 95º-97º in some cases. The only reprieve will be a bit of a breeze out of the southwest that will manage to stir the air for a bit. Otherwise, hot and humid reigns.
Another mild overnight with lows falling to a muggy 68º under mostly clear skies.
Closer to True Summer for Sunday
Not only do we keep the incessant heat and humidity around for the halfway point of the long weekend, we’ll also re-introduce a chance for a scattered thunderstorm during the afternoon hours, thanks to a disturbance that will move through the area.
Otherwise, high temperatures will once again climb and exceed the 90º mark with oppressive dew point numbers making it feel closer to the mid 90s. Definitely a day to stay inside and maybe watch, oh, I don’t know…the Annual IndyCar Race Going 500 Miles in the Capital of the State Adjacent to the North of Kentucky?

Hot Memorial Day Continues Into Next Week
As we honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, it will yet again be another toasty one outdoors. I think we’ll keep the showers at bay once again for Monday, but highs will remain near 91º thanks to the mostly sunny skies.
The forecast remains much the same as we head later into the week as well, with highs staying near 90º and overnight lows near 70º. Brief cooldowns will enter the picture as a disturbance brings in an opportunity for a few showers and storms by Wednesday and Thursday with highs in the low to mid 80s.
