Good morning, folks, and happy Wednesday to you all. After a few days of sunshine and warm temperatures, seasonal showers and storms are possible today. Below is this morning’s beautiful sunrise from our skycam in Edmonson County. Check out the forecast details below:

Active Spring Pattern Continues

It’s been an active spring so far for us, but that’s definitely not a bad thing. These weekly showers have really helped the flowers bloom, bud the trees, and keep pollen dampened.

Wednesday Weather Outlook (WPC)
Wednesday Weather Outlook (WPC)

We will start off out Wednesday with partly sunny skies, but clouds will be increasing as rain/storm chances arrive this afternoon/evening. A low pressure system located to our southwest will be dragging a warm front near our area, bringing with it rain showers and a few thunderstorms.

Precipitation will be entering our area between 4pm and 7 pm this afternoon/evening.

With the combination of a few thunderstorm parameters, such as weak instability (500-700 J/kg of CAPE), moderate wind shear (30 knots), and lifting from the associated front, a few rumbles of thunder will be possible. However, thunderstorms are not expected to be severe.

Afternoon temperatures will reach the range of 77º – 80ºF, with winds mainly under 10 mph. By the nighttime hours, temperature will drop to around 58º – 61ºF. Rain showers and a few thunderstorms should continue overnight. Rainfall amounts will be around 0.25 inches, with locally higher amounts possible where thunderstorms occur.

Rain Showers Continue on Thursday

We may get a break from rainfall activity during the mid morning tomorrow, but that break won’t last for long. Rain showers and maybe a thunderstorm will be more likely around lunchtime. Remember last Friday? Similar to last Friday, persistent rain showers will be possible Thursday afternoon into the evening hours.

Shown above, the GFS hints at constant moderate rain showers from 1 pm until midnight (when the above animation loop stops). Thursday total rainfall amounts are expected to measure around 1 inch, with locally higher amounts possible.

While Thursday will be soaking like last Friday, temperatures will remain seasonal. High temperatures will reach the neighborhood of 70º – 74ºF. Winds should mostly remain under 10 mph, out of the southwest. Low temperatures will drop down to around 54º – 56ºF.

Rain Exits Friday, Sunshine Returns

Luckily for us, rain showers will be exiting our area during the overnight/early morning hours on Friday.

After the passing of the cold front, skies will quickly clear, leading to a beautiful day to end the work-week. We can expect mostly sunny skies with winds out of the north-northwest, up to 15 mph possible.

With some strong north-northwest winds, afternoon temperatures will be a little cooler, but still very comfortable. Afternoon highs will reach the ballpark of 64º – 66ºF.

By Friday night, winds will calm down and be mainly out of the northwest. Low temperatures will dip to around 45ºF, so a light jacket may be needed if you have any Friday night plans.

That wraps up today’s forecast. Hope you have a great Wednesday and rest of the weekend! Make sure to look for the Afternoon Video Update on Facebook and the Afternoon Weather Story on Twitter/Instagram, only on @wxornotBG.
