An Active Sunday is in Store

Good morning, folks! Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend, and is well rested. An active Sunday is in store across the region, so buckle up and we’ll get going!

Severe Storms Possible Today

We’re starting off the day pretty warm, as we’re sitting under mostly cloudy skies. You’ll find it quite pleasant to walk outside and into temps in the lower 60s.

With thick cloud cover, the sunshine won’t be easy to come by this morning or afternoon, which will be a limiting factor for severe storms. Still, expect temperatures to hit the upper 60s and maybe lower 70s before any storms roll on in.

The main round (at least right now) looks to currently be developing over Arkansas and Louisiana, and moving northeastward.

These are expected to expand and impact the region by the early afternoon hours. The worst of the storms look like they’ll stay towards our south in TN, but you’ll have to keep a close eye on these.

The main threat with any severe storms is going to be damaging winds, with secondary threats being large hail and an isolated tornado, flooding, and lightning. Because of all of this, the SPC has placed us in a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe storms.

Monday Looks Stormy

The same mid and upper level system that sent a nice little wave of energy to force our storms today will be awful slow to move out of the way. Given this, we are expecting more stormy weather tomorrow, though, not severe in nature.

The storms this evening should give way to a brief reprieve before more storms move in on Monday morning. These should just contain lightning and heavy rain as their main threats.

Because we’ll have have clouds for much of the day, expect highs to only stick in the upper 60s. We may hit lower 70s if we get a bit of sunshine, but that isn’t expected right now.

Some isolated storms are possible tomorrow afternoon, but I don’t expect them to be as widespread as the morning showers/storms.

Things Improve Tuesday

The upper level system will be sloooowly moving out to our south, and finally does so on Tuesday. But, not before hitting us with more cloud cover on Tuesday morning.

Clouds will be slow to clear, but they do look to finally clear on Tuesday afternoon! This should allow highs to hike back up into the 70s.

I don’t expect it right now, but I would not be surprised to see a few showers with those clouds on Tuesday morning. Just something to keep in mind.

Beyond Tuesday, we get a brief break for Wednesday to warm up, and then we’re right back in it. Thursday looks windy, warm, and classic spring.

The set up is very impressive, so if we can get any moisture back into the region Thursday, expect a line of storms that could be severe. We have plenty of time to figure that one out, though!
