Rain Returning, Along with a Strong Storm Threat

Thursday was a nice break from the seemingly incessant rain of the past few ~~days~~ weeks. But the atmosphere waits for no man and as such, we must talk about the rain returning, along with a strong storm threat.

Rain’s Back for Friday

The good news is that it’s Friday, the bad news is that you’ll have to drag the rain gear back out…hope you didn’t put it too far away.

Our next weathermaker enters the picture for the day today and it promises even more scattered showers.

Make note of that warm front, because it has our name on it…but not for today. Scattered showers stick around, keeping temperatures for most of the day a couple of degrees either side of 50°. Let’s say 53°. Rain showers continue overnight, with a low near 48°.

Because of this, a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the entire area and much of the state of Kentucky for the possibility of quick rises on those already swollen creeks and streams. As always, turn around, don’t drown.

Storm Threat for Saturday

Tomorrow is certainly going to be a day to watch, as for the first time in quite awhile, we’ve got a risk for severe storms around the area.

We’re under a marginal risk for severe weather for the day tomorrow, with the primetime being sometime in the evening and early night time hours.

The low pressure of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles will move into the great lakes region. This will first drag a warm front through the area, bringing not just heavy rain, but gusty southerly winds that will usher in temperatures near 70°.

The warm front will lift northward, setting the stage for thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening that could be strong to severe. Main threats will be damaging winds, large hail and we can never quite rule out an isolated tornado. This threat is biggest to our south and west, but severe storms can’t be ruled out.

In any case, I still expect flooding to be our main threat through the weekend, with another bout of heavy rain leaving several unneeded inches of rainfall behind.

Once all is said and done, though, these storms should be out of here by late evening, leaving just a chance of showers in it’s wake, with a low falling to around 50°.

Sunshine Returns for Drier Sunday

The weekend finishes on a much more drier and pleasant note as we welcome sunshine back to the picture for the day on Sunday.

The sunshine will help boost our temperatures back to comfortable levels at least, with a high near 55°. I’d say it’s a good day to go outside…as long as you’re not heading out into the yard, which will probably need a couple more days of recovery. That aside, we stay clear overnight and fall to about 30°.

More to Come During the Week

If you think Sunday sounds like a pretty good weather day, I’ve got good news! The start of next week looks to remain on the drier, sunnier side, with comfortable highs in the mid-50s. We may introduce shower chances late in the week, but dry time will dominate. Finally!
