Good Sunday morning, folks! Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend. We have flipped the switch! After brutal cold last week, the spring-like weather is expected to continue across the region.
Could you buy a Better Sunday?
I mean, remember when we were talking about single digit lows, and wind chills below zero? Yeah, that was about 4 days ago. Remember when we couldn’t get a sunny Sunday or weekend to save our lives? Well, here we are! Today looks spectacular.
We are beginning the day in the upper 30s to around 40 region-wide, so it may be a bit chilly if you’re heading out this morning. After that, though, we are looking golden.
Clouds from a weak mid and upper level system are moving on out, leaving us with perfect conditions to end up with sunny skies. Additionally, with another system moving to our north from the west, we are looking at southwesterly surface winds.
This usually warms us up quite a bit if they’re strong, and while they don’t look to be, expect highs today in the mid, and maybe, upper 60s.
Yep, I went there. It is C-R-A-Z-Y. I think we can officially issue a pothole alert for area roadways.
Manic Monday and Tuesday
How many nice days in a row will we get? Well, Monday looks like the deciding factor.
Let me explain. A low pressure system is going to deepen across the High Plains today and track through the Great Lakes states, dragging a weak cold front through our region.
I’m not even sure this will be strong enough to bring us rain, but some showers are possible during the afternoon and evening. Ahead of this, clouds will move it, but despite this, expect temperatures to jump into the upper 60s again within breezy southwesterly flow.
There is some discretion on how far south the cold front will push. One model stops it just to our south, and then has it moving northward as a warm front Tuesday evening.
This would keep us warmer on Tuesday, likely in the upper 50s and lower 60s. The other model pushes the front well into the lower TN valley, keeping us much cooler Tuesday.
I would expect clouds to hang around Tuesday either way, but I think the front will probably sag towards a mean between the two. Expect highs in the mid and upper 50s on Tuesday.
Wet Weather to end the Week
Post-Tuesday weather looks much warmer, and with much higher rain chances.
Southwesterly flow in the mid levels of the atmosphere will characterize the flow over the next week or so, and this will allow quite a bit of moisture to flood the eastern portion of the US.
With a very cold air mass sitting in Canada and the northern US, this also means that we’re likely to see a very active pattern over the coming weeks. The end of this week will be no different.
I mentioned that front lifting north as a warm front – that will be the concentration of very heavy rainfall starting Wednesday and lasting through Friday night.
Now, right now, that looks to set up to our north. That means we’ll see breezy conditions and very warm temperatures within that warm sector. However, there is significant discretion on the progress of that front as a cold front, and that’ll be a big factor in where it sets up as a warm front.
We’ll keep an eye on it, but know that there is a good chance we hit the 70s between Wednesday and Friday of this week. Crazy.
