Soaking Wednesday Before Temperatures Plummet

Good morning, friends, and happy Wednesday! After a breezy, but mild day, our next weather system has arrived. This system will bring a soaking Wednesday before temperatures plummet. Check out the details below!

Windy This Morning

The Wind Advisory is in effect until 9 AM this morning.

NWS Louisville has issued a Wind Advisory.

Winds are out of the south this morning around 20 mph, with occasional gusts up to 30-40 mph. The main impacts include difficult driving conditions and loose objects being blown around.

Super Soaker Through Afternoon

A low pressure system is bringing widespread rain showers to our area today.

While temperatures will stay mild before the cold front, we will see quite a bit of rain. We could measure between 0.5 to 1 inch by the end of the day. Winds will remain breezy until the afternoon hours, so a raincoat will be a better option than an umbrella.

Currently (at 6AM), the temperature in Bowling Green is 54°F. Scattered showers will be entering our area by 9 AM. By noon, temperatures will be around 48°F, and widespread heavier showers will be taking over throughout the afternoon hours. Winds are currently out of the south, but this all is about to change.

Temperatures Crash Tonight

The cold front associated with this low pressure system will be passing over us this afternoon, and when doing so, will cause temperatures to come crashing down. We can expect temperatures to be around 38°F when the kids get out of school. The low temperature for tonight will be around 24°F.

By tonight we could see all this rain transition to snow or mixed wintry precipitation. However, snow accumulation should stay under an inch.

Counties east of I-65 have a greater chance of snow accumulation.

Timing: Could Start to see snow flurries and sleet around 6 PM. Should be exiting our area midnight.

Impacts: As temperatures crash today, it will not be hard for snow/sleet/freezing rain to stick. Some slick spots on roadways and elevated surfaces are possible. If the models hold true, the bulk of wintry weather will come after the evening commute.

Skies Clear on Thursday

After this cold front passage, skies look to clear and temperatures remain cold. Sunny skies will return tomorrow, with winds predominantly out of the west and under 10 mph. The high temperature will be around 37°F.

Tomorrow night will be a good night to bundle up with a hot drink and a blanket. Temperatures will drop to a bitter 15°F.

Much Colder on Friday

By the end of the week, high pressure will be moving into the Midwest, which will help keep skies clear.

Winds will be out of the northwest, which will continue to transport cold air into our area. Temperatures will only get to about 27°F for the high.

However, if there is any good news, it’s that the low temperature for Friday night will be in the low 20s, so temperatures won’t be changing much through the day.
