Rain Returns To Finish the Week

We’ve had a few days of dry weather and sunshine after a gloomy weekend, but all good things must come to an end and for us the dry weather will end soon…but not after a nice day today. However, the nice weather will soon turn soggy as rain returns to finish the week.

A Mild Wednesday

What would your reaction be if I told you that we’re six days before Christmas and temperatures would be near 60°?

Well, yes, we’ve got this right. The high pressure that’s kept us dry will be centered over the mid-atlantic and drifting away, putting us right in the crosshairs of southerly flow.

If you’re a frequent visitor, you’ll know that southerly flow often results in warmer temperatures since we’re bringing air in from the gulf coast and Gulf of Mexico. For us today, this will result in afternoon highs around 62°. That’s a good 15° above normal! While we won’t be breaking any records (72° last set just 10 years ago), you might be breaking the short-sleeves back out…if only for one day.

Overnight, our next system will be approaching, increasing cloud-cover and eventually shower chances towards daybreak. Lows only fall to around 45°…which is right around where we should be for a high.

Let’s Get Soggy…Again

Yes folks, it’s time once again for rain chances to enter the picture, courtesy of a low pressure system moving into the area.

Rain will overspread the region during the early morning hours with periods of showers lasting throughout the day. It won’t rain all day but the shower threat will be there so keep the rain gear handy…as if it’s left your sight since the weekend.

High temperatures only top out around 50° for the daytime hours. We’ll see shower chances continue at night as cold air begins to filter in on the backside, getting down to about 40° for a low.

A Chillier Friday

Temperatures don’t look to move a whole lot during the day on Friday.

Interesting thing about Friday is how fast temperatures fall…or rather stay the same. Showers will slowly come to an end during the day…but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that we may introduce a bit of light snow as the precipitation ends. We’ll keep an eye on this but we shouldn’t see any road issues since road surface temperatures are well above freezing.

Highs will be early, right around 40° falling into the 30s during the afternoon. Cloud cover will begin to clear out overnight for a low near 28° with dry skies.

A Quick Look Ahead

Things still look dry and fairly for the weekend, but we might see a few more showers enter the picture by Christmas Eve. Chances for a white Christmas looks pretty low as temperatures will be near average (just below 50°) for the holiday.
