A Nice Sunday Ahead Before Winter Returns

Good Sunday morning folks! I hope everyone has had an amazing Thanksgiving break over the past few days. We’re looking at a nice Sunday ahead before winter returns this coming work week.

Warm and Breezy Sunday

Before I move any further, we’re looking at some very dense fog across the region this morning. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 8 am this morning. Be cautious as….this is some thick fog.

The headline is kind of misleading, as I don’t want it to stretch across half of the page. Both of those things are true, though, but we are also expecting rainfall this evening. A strong low pressure system will be the primary culprit of all of these things today.

It is currently situated across southern Kansas, and is forecast to continue deepening as it propagates across the Midwest. This will mean winds increasing across the region throughout the day today.

Expect clouds to move into the region in conjunction with this. Winds will begin to start gusting early this afternoon, and will only increase in strength from the south as the low approaches. Expect consistent gusts in the 25-35 mph range as we head into the evening.

Highs this afternoon should quickly rise into the lower 60s ahead of the cold front. By this evening (3-5 pm) showers will begin to increase across the region.

This will end with a gusty line of showers along the cold front, which should pass through between 10 and 11 pm tonight. Rainfall totals look to be around 0.25″-0.5″.

Winter Returns with a Vengeance

Behind this cold front, winter will be returning to the region. The powerful front will bring some intense winds to the region, and gusts overnight and into Monday morning could easily exceed 40 mph.

Temperatures are forecast to quickly fall into the lower 30s by the time you’re sending the kids to school tomorrow. Be sure to bundle up because it won’t get much warmer on your Monday.

Clouds look like they’ll be copious across throughout the day, keeping highs only in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees. Don’t be surprised if you see some light snow out there, as well (don’t worry; it won’t be anything serious).

Sunshine Returns for Tuesday

I don’t foresee skies being 100% clear on Tuesday, but the sun will finally return to the southern KY skies.

It feels like we have spent much of the past few weeks socked into cloud cover, so it is a nice thought to see some sunshine by Tuesday. Don’t get too excited, though, because highs will only be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Expect sunshine to continue on Wednesday, and a gradual warm up to commence before our next chance at rainfall arrives on Friday and Saturday.
