Roller Coaster Halloween Week

Aside from gremlins and goblins, we’ll also be dealing with a variety of weather throughout the upcoming days. We’ve already experienced winds of 35+ mph this afternoon, with more swings of weather emotion to follow.

Between beautiful conditions comprised of sunshine and cool breezes, to shower & storm chances…not to mention, high temperatures ranging between ~55˚ and ~75˚, we have quite a roller coaster Halloween Week ahead of us.

To preface this in the most polite way possible, shower & storm chances will peak on Halloween day, making for the opposite of ideal conditions.

Impeccable Start to the Week

High pressure and upper ridging will be in complete control over the short term period. This will keep that big ball of fire in the sky both Monday and Tuesday, with a steady warm up also in the forecast.

Temperature readings Monday afternoon will achieve the low to mid 60s, with breezy, southerly winds escorting highs to the mid 70s by Tuesday afternoon.

Soggy Halloween

A cold front will be closing in on the region Tuesday night, encroaching upon the Ohio River by sunrise Wednesday. Exhibit A, valid for… “that Tuesday night before sunrise Wednesday”:

This boundary will make a slow, yet steady progression southeast, causing moisture to become more abundant ahead of it, which will result in increasing rounds of showers with embedded thunderstorms as we progress throughout the day on Wednesday, impacting peak trick-or-treat time, through the evening.

Here’s a look at the latest NAM precipitation model, which paints a soggy Halloween for the entire area. It’s valid for early Halloween morning through evening:

If you have any prior “candy collecting” events planned leading up to the “Big Day”, it’s recommended that you take full advantage…

Whole Lotta Rain

The available moisture in our atmosphere between Tuesday night and Thursday night will be plentiful, well above average this time of year. Total rainfall amounts will vary, depending upon those impacted by storms and those who are not. The latest from NWS Louisville gives us a 96% chance to see rainfall on Halloween:

As illustrated by the latest WPC’s rainfall forecast, our region is expected to receive anywhere between 1.5-4+” of the wet stuff between Tuesday night and Friday morning:

Nice Weekend Follows

We’re being optimistic here, considering it’s several days out, but the weekend that’ll conclude Halloween Week, at this point, appears to be cold and dry.

Following the passing of the cold front Thursday night, much cooler air will work in from the northwest, limiting weekend highs to the mid 50s, with early morning lows in the 30s.

It’s not all doom & gloom, with rays of sunshine expected to occupy the sky during the daylight hours. Don’t forget those shades, Maverick!

So…in conclusion, a look at your upcoming week:

That’ll do it for your Sunday evening weather update for the upcoming week. Keep the rain gear out for Halloween and the Thursday that follows, but outside of that, things seem to be quite nice.

Have a great rest of your evening. Until next time, follow @wxornotBG for your latest weather updates.
