We’ve seen just about all of what Mother Nature has to offer so far this week, from warm temperatures leading to severe thunderstorms to a hard freeze the next night and she’s going to throw us another curve this weekend when winter strikes back as temp see-saw goes back and forth.

Friday Warmth Belies Wintry Blast

The calendar says April and yes, we’re in the month of spring. It’s going to feel like it before Old Man Winter comes over for another visit.

Before he drops in, however, we’re looking at a warm up. As the system that will give us our weekend precipitation approaches, we’re looking for winds to shift around to the south and southwest. This will allow warmer air that sits to our south to rush into our area today.

With these winds in place, we’ll see highs in the upper 50s approaching 60º for this afternoon. Clouds will be on the increase as will rain chances through the day. Then things get interesting.

After the cold front moves through, temperatures begin to crash and we have the possibility of rain changing over to a little bit of mix and snow as lows plummet to around 30º. Luckily, models have been trending down with any sort of totals and with the road surface temperatures being warm, I don’t see this as being too much of an issue but it is something to keep an eye on.

Precip Leaves a Breezy Saturday

We finally move the rain/snow mess out of here throughout the day on Saturday as the system begins to scoot on out of here.

What we’ll be left with is breezy north winds under Canadian high pressure that’s settled in. This will allow frigid temperatures (well, by April standards) to filter in during the day. Our high will only reach around 45º.

Winds at night will finally calm down, enough to put us on Frost Alert as clear skies allow us to drop to around a chilly 25º for a low.

Sunday Up and Down as Well

We’ll spend much of the day on Sunday in between weather systems allowing us a bit of a break…but you know how Mother Nature’s been lately and she just won’t let us have nice things for too long.

We’ll increase the cloud cover throughout the day and that’ll allow us to only top out around 50º as the rain begins to move in for Sunday night. Right now, the best bet is for scattered showers and a low only around 40º.

That just about does it for me! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotbg for the latest. Have a terrific Friday!
