Chilly Morning
You may think winter has already returned when you walk out the door this morning, but just wait until Saturday morning…
High pressure currently over south-central Kentucky will be followed by a strong cold front providing us two spring days before winter returns overnight Friday.
Spring Day 1
Today, the high will reach the upper 50’s this afternoon even with the cold start. It will be sunny and dry with light south winds as high pressure slowly but sadly exits to the east.
Tonight’s low is in the mid 40’s. These numbers are below average for April, but not too bad.
Spring Day 2
Tomorrow looks to be cloudy also with a high in the mid 50’s around lunch on Friday. Small chance of showers in the morning increases through the day. Enjoy this “warmth” while it lasts though.
Winter Returns Overnight Friday
As a cold front approaches, it will rain starting late Friday evening between 6 and 9. Temperatures drop to 40 by midnight Friday, and we will pick up a quarter inch of rain.
The weather models trended up on snow totals yesterday, but then dropped our chances and totals overnight due to the low tracking farther southeast. This is very understandable considering the storm system bringing us this chance of snow is just now hitting the west coast.
The jury is still out for if we will get a short-lived Saturday morning snow or sleet accumulation. My prediction is that we will see snow, but that it will not stick due to warm ground temperatures. A better chance for accumulating snow exists to our northeast.
Regardless of weather or not we get snow overnight on Friday, it will be cold on Saturday. Wind chills will be in the low 20’s Saturday morning with the 10-15 mph north winds. The high will top out in the low 40’s, and Saturday night and Sunday look to be unseasonably cold, too. Follow @wxornotbg for the latest updates.
