Rain Returns For Soggy Weekend

ACTIVE pattern continues; FLOOD concerns on the rise.

Other than the unrelenting gusts that just wouldn’t quit, yesterday was quite the day. Mostly sunny skies ruled and that allowed highs to skyrocket to 77º, tying a record high for the date in Bowling Green. Unfortunately, a cold front is working through the area and this means rain returns for a soggy weekend.

Temps Fall on Friday

If anything can cure spring fever around here, it’s a timely cold front and we have one working through the area right now.

This cold front will bring along with it the chance for ample and widespread showers for the region during the day today.

Can it not keep doing this? (Giphy)

This is also one of those days where the high is likely to have already occurred near midnight. We’ll spend the day falling from the mid-60s to around 40º in the afternoon thanks to brisk northwesterly winds behind the cold front. Just a yuck day out today.

Rain begins to taper as this particular system begins to exit the region. Low tonight fall into the mid-30s with a few breaks in those clouds.

More Rain for Saturday

We keep the rain train rolling into the station on Saturday as another weather system begins to approach from the south and west.

Things could become just a bit interesting tomorrow morning because of the cold air mass we’ll have in place on the back side of the cold front. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that we could see a few wet snowflakes mix in when precipitation starts on Saturday. This wouldn’t last very long and likely won’t amount to much in the way of accumulation but it is something to note. Otherwise, we remain soggy.

We’ll stay socked in under cloud cover and showers and that should limit out highs from getting to out of control. Even under southwest winds, we’re still only going to reach between 45-50º tomorrow…which will be another day to stay inside.

Things begin to dry out Saturday night as we clear out somewhat and drop back into the mid-30s for lows.

Sunday Trending Up

We should get a brief reprieve from the wet weather into the day on Sunday when we’ll be in-between systems, allowing us to dry out…at least temporarily.

Southwest winds will warm us up to near 60º with mostly sunny skies above. But the party will be short-lived as our next rainmaker makes an appearance starting Sunday night.

And this will continue a pattern featuring several waves of rain moving through the region, which could allow local creeks, streams and rivers to begin to swell. Model guidance continues to suggest several inches of rainfall through next week. You’re going to want to stay tuned for the latest on that.

That just about does it for me! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotbg. Have a terrific Friday!
