Highs in 70’s Today with Overcast Skies

Good morning, amazingly we are waking up to unseasonably warm temperatures in the mid 60’s which will only continue to rise throughout the day.  Check out the yellow map Kentucky Mesonet paints of  our current temps below.  The Commonwealth look like a big banana!

Expect highs to reach the mid 70’s by this afternoon behind strong southwestern winds at 15-20 mph with higher gusts, so secure the patio furniture and other loose objects.  This stiff breeze is created from our area being trapped between the low pressure that will become our next weather maker to our northwest over Missouri and high pressure to our southwest over Tennessee with the winds trying to balance them.

Any early morning drizzle will dry up by about 8 a.m. leaving us with overcast skies and a great day to head outside.  With today’s unseasonably high temperatures you may think this is the start of spring, but…

Strong Cold Front Arrives Tomorrow

h/t pivotalwx.com
h/t pivotalwx.com  This model expects rain to pass through our region from 6 a.m. to noon Friday.

The front will sweep through this region early tomorrow morning.  It will drop temperatures from Thursday’s highs in the 70’s to the upper 30’s for the evening commute.  In addition, about a half inch to an inch and a half of rain is forecast which will exacerbate flooding and make tomorrow feel cold and soggy, kind of like this poor penguin.

Dreary Saturday

With winds changed behind Friday’s cold front to drawing air from the north, Saturday morning’s lows will reach close to the freezing mark. The high temperatures on Saturday will be unseasonably cool, only reaching the low 40’s.  With a chance of more rain showers that afternoon, this leaves us to make the best of another dreary weekend.  Cabin fever can make you go bananas, so make a point today to head outside while the weather is nice.
