Rain and Warm Weather Incoming

Holy Cow, it is Warm Outside

Hey, everyone! Hope we are all doing well on this wonderful Sunday morning. As you’re heading out for Sunday services, or breakfast, or preparing for the playoffs, etc. you will be experiencing some fantastic temps.

We are waking up in the upper 40s and low 50s! Just remember not that long ago when we were sitting in the single digits with 5″ of snow on the ground. Those were truly the days!

Today will be characterized by increasing clouds, and increasing temperatures as well. South to southwesterly winds will increase in strength, and lead to quite the warm up across southern KY.

The HRRR model has a stiff southwesterly flow across the region, with temps warming into the low 60s. h/t COD Weather

Expect highs in the low 60s this afternoon.

Rain is a’coming!

A cold front is currently approaching the region from the west, in association with a strengthening surface low pressure system. This is drawing an influx of moisture into the region, and is giving us the increase in clouds.

This will approach, and the upper level divergence associated with it will help to bring showers and rainfall to the region, beginning after midnight tonight.

Notice how the wind barbs are flowing away from each other. That is called divergence, and it allows air to lift. h/t COD Weather

The heaviest rain is forecast to fall between 12 pm and 6 pm Monday, with the cold front approaching and passing through the region between 6 pm and 9 pm.

The 3km NAM is forecasting heavy rainfall tomorrow afternoon and evening with the passage of the cold front. h/t COD Weather

Ahead of the cold front, we’ll be dealing with strong winds and warm temps again. We should see temps rise into the low 60s, and winds may gust upwards of 30 mph at times.

We should be looking at no more than 0.5″-1″ of rainfall. And luckily, last week’s snow pack wasn’t full of moisture, because we could have been looking at some flooding issues.

Dreary and Bleh Weather Returns

The cold front looks to pass through Monday evening, bringing a nice drop in temperatures to the region.

It won’t be fun heading back to winter’s reality, but it is the middle of January. It looks breezy, cold and cloudy during the day on Tuesday, and that will be no fun for the second day of classes this semester.

Highs likely won’t get out of the 30s, and we’ll be lucky if we get any sunshine at all during the day. Oh well; at least it isn’t 8°F again, right?
