More Snow Followed By Gelid Air

Sunny and cold today; more SNOW possible Monday.

Road conditions in many locations have improved compared to this time Saturday, however, temperatures falling to the single-digits overnight have inevitably kept travel hazardous this morning.

Sunshine will join highs in the upper 20s today, before achieving the upper 30s Monday. Don’t let your guard down, as this will result in more snow followed by gelid air.

Sunny But COLD

High pressure has parked itself right on top of us early this morning, clearing skies and allowing rays of sun to dominate. This is also responsible for how cold our temperatures have gotten.

Readings this afternoon will achieve the mid to upper 20s, while cloud cover begins to increase, thanks to winds turning out of the south.

Brief Warm Up, Then Snow

Another Arctic front will be plowing southeast toward the area tonight into Monday. This will result in winds remaining out of the south early, which should slingshot the mercury to the upper 30s/low 40s by lunchtime.

Then, things will start to get tricky…current trends suggest a brief rain/snow mix will quickly transition to all snow between early and mid afternoon, while temperatures begin to slide toward the freezing mark of 32˚.

Once snow starts, temps will begin to fall, but guidance thinks we won’t fall to freezing until 6pm. Our big concern is snow rates. If we get bursts of snow (which is expected), it won’t matter if temps are a few degrees above freezing, travel will begin to rapidly deteriorate again. Here’s the simulated radar from the NAM 3km:

Please stay weather aware Monday afternoon through Tuesday for hazardous travel unfolding, yet again. As always with winter events, it’s not amounts we’re focused on, it’s IMPACTS. With that being said, we still have to look at amounts, am-i-right!?

Above is the latest thoughts from the National Weather Service in Louisville. They have a broad brush dusting to 1″ of additional snowfall for us. Again, nothing to get too excited about, but with the cold air that’s set to follow, roadways are expected to be negatively impacted.

Mr. Freeze Arrives

Temperatures following this Arctic front are going to be BRUTAL. After falling to ~10˚ early Tuesday morning, afternoon highs will only reach the upper teens.

Even colder air will settle in by sunrise Wednesday, with a forecast temperature of ZERO. Yes, ZERO degrees.

What’s that!? A warm up in the distance!?

The mercury is set to climb back into the 40s by Friday afternoon, with 50s and rain slated for the weekend.
