Southerly winds around 5 mph has already warmed us up some. Temperatures have risen from 10° around midnight to 13° by 5 AM. Southerly and southwesterly winds will continue until this afternoon, leading to highs right around 31° under mostly cloudy skies.
The cold front will swing through the region late this afternoon signaling a return to the cold. The cold front may also bring a few flurries or snow showers to the region overnight, but nothing too exciting is expected. Overnight lows will drop to around 10° with wind chills feeling right around zero degrees.
High pressure will move in behind the front on Thursday. This will set the stage for another cold day as the high pressure system sends cold air spilling into the region from the northwest. Highs will struggle to reach 20°.
We’ll be back into the single digits Thursday night as lows are once again expected to drop to around 5° under clear skies. Given a northwest wind around 10 mph, wind chill values will drop below zero. Another night to let faucets drip and bring pets inside!
Cold conditions will once again be likely on Friday. High pressure to the northwest of the region keeps pumping cold air into the region. Highs will top out in the low 20s despite mostly sunny skies. A stray flurry or two may be possible, but the best chance of this will be to the west of the region.
Frigid conditions will return to the region Friday night as lows once again dip into single digits. We just can’t seem to shake the lasting cold. However, changes may be on the way.
Looking Ahead
While cold conditions are still expected Saturday, some changes look to be in store for Sunday. A trough to the southwest of the region will spread warmer air into the area. This will bring a chance of rain showers with it Sunday and into Monday. The rain may transition to snow by Monday evening and overnight.
