Christmas Eve Snow Showers?

Hey everyone! Merry Christmas Eve! It is a wonderful day and I can’t wait for Christmas Eve services and the craziness that comes with Christmas.

In our current atmospheric flow, there is a nice disturbance moving quickly southeastward from the northern Plains and into the lower Ohio Valley. What isn’t fun is that much of the snow will be on the northern side of this disturbance.

The disturbance over Missouri and Kansas is heading our way. This may produce some snow showers this evening. h/t COD Weather

However, we still may get in on the action. We’re looking at rain and snow showers this afternoon being a possibility, but not too widespread. The dry air we’ve got across the region will be tough to overcome.

Even so, timing for this event will be tough. With the best chance for snow being between 4 and 7 pm, this could effect Christmas Eve services. On top of this, winds behind the cold front should be gusty, in the 20-25 mph range. Be cautious driving to and from services this evening, as even a light snow shower could cause issues.

Christmas Cold to Last a Few Days

After the cold front comes through this evening, gusty northwest winds will carry us into Christmas, ushering in some of the cooler air we’ve had for Christmas since 2004 (we were in the 70s last year).

This was my reaction when I saw that! h/t giphy.com

Highs should only get up into the mid 30s tomorrow, and upper 30s at the most on Tuesday! Partly to mostly cloudy skies will be present as well, making the chilly weather feel even worse.

Additionally, there is a chance we see some light snow showers tomorrow night and early Tuesday with a passing disturbance. I don’t think it is likely, but we’ll have to keep an eye on it.

The 3km NAM has a nice swath of snowfall moving into the region tomorrow evening. I don’t buy it just yet, but some of the other models are hinting at it too. h/t pivotalweather.com

Late Week Action?

Models for a few days have been hinting at some possible wintry weather action later in the week. They have been playing the flip flop game for sometime, but I think the pattern we’re currently in favors at least some snowfall.

We’ll have to watch it, but at this time it does not look like we’ll be dealing with a major snowfall at this time.

Well that is all, folks! Merry Christmas eve! Remember to slow down and reflect on the past year while surrounded by family and friends. Be sure to follow @wxornotBG on Twitter for the latest on the weather today, tomorrow, and every day!
