Rain late Tonight/Tomorrow; Cool Midweek

The Headline

Well, the headline for now is definitely the rainfall and cold front that are heading our way.

The current set up. You can see the southeasterly flow over southern KY, and the cold front marching this direction. h/t COD Weather

This is a pretty odd system for a variety of reasons, but the main one is that this cold front won’t be the specific one that brings the midweek cold air. That is a secondary cold front on Monday night.

Before all of that goes down, today is looking increasingly cloudy, with a stiff southeasterly breeze. This will help temperatures rise up into the upper 70s to around 80°F.

Yeah, I thought it was Fall too, guys. h/t giphy.com

Clouds will continue to increase as we head into the overnight hours as the actual rainfall approaches the region from the west. This rainfall will make it here by late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

This will affect the Monday morning commute negatively, so be sure to send the kids to the bus stop with a raincoat. Only expect 1-3″ of rain. Long sleeves will be copious, as Monday will be a classic Fall day. And, expect a 100% chance of rainboots.

So, by Monday rain will be moving to out, but a new cold front will be approaching from the northwest as a deeper trough approaches and phases with the low that gave us the rain.

The cold front that approaches tomorrow night will bring with it much cooler air than we have had lately. h/t Pivotalweather

Behind this front? Much cooler temps, a stiff northwesterly breeze and partly sunny skies for Tuesday.

This will carry us through mid week, and beyond that, everything gets quite convoluted in the model data. It is frustrating right now, but I can tell you that temps will be near or below normal for the majority of this week.
