Saturday Hallelujah, Sunday Rain

The passing of the cold front Friday afternoon has opened the door to a phenomenal start to our weekend.

Believe it or not, temperatures are actually on the “cool” side for early August, bottoming out in the low 50s early this morning…

If you’re a fan of the outdoors…go outside today.  If you’re not, I’ll pray for you.  Lotsa sunshine is in the forecast, along with low humidity and high temperatures in the upper 70s/low 80s.

Wind will not be a factor, either, thanks to high pressure sitting atop our heads…literally:

Soak in these conditions while you can, folks.  Cloud cover will be on the increase tonight, with scattered storms becoming a possibility by lunchtime Sunday.

It’ll also be more humid, and a few degrees warmer than today, with highs climbing to the mid 80s.

Current thinking is that the “main event” of showers & storms will hold off on arrival until after sunset.  We could see a few cells become strong/severe, with primary threats consisting of damaging wind, torrential rainfall and frequent lightning.

Total rainfall amounts from the event should range between .25″ – 1.25″.  The NAM 3km model loop below gives you an idea as to how this system may behave:

A stationary front will settle in the Tennessee Valley vicinity for the remainder of the upcoming week.  This will serve as a pathway that multiple disturbances will travel along.

Due to this, repeated rounds of isolated to widely scattered showers & storms will be possible all the way through Friday.

The good news is that with an upper trough hanging on in the upper levels across the Ohio Valley, temperatures should remain bearable.

Overnight lows will be bottoming out in the mid 60s, with afternoon highs ranging between the low & mid 80s.  Again, not gonna complain, especially considering it’s early August.
