Good morning, everybody! I hope y’all have an umbrella or rain jacket at the ready because it’s gonna be a bit wet outside today and tomorrow!

Overall Set-Up

There’s a high pressure system that is continuing to move east out of the Ohio Valley, with a cold front also moving eastward, but into our neck of the woods. This cold front is the driving force for the showers and thunderstorms that we saw yesterday and will see through tomorrow.

The upper-level shortwave that is helping to initiate storm convection will also continue to move east into our area by tonight. Diurnal heating along with upper-level winds support could help to initiate these storms today and tomorrow, as the atmosphere destabilizes throughout the day. The atmosphere looks to be plenty unstable due to daytime heating (really hot outside = unstable atmosphere). With this being the case, any storms that do initiate will likely have sufficient atmospheric energy to work with, so strong storms are possible for both today and tomorrow.

By early tomorrow morning, the aforementioned cold front will have reached the outskirts of Kentucky. As the front pushes through Kentucky, taking most of the day to do so, we can expect showers and thunderstorms, possibly strong storms with the chance for an isolated severe cell or two to develop.

By Sunday, the cold front will have moved to our east, as higher pressure fills in behind the front. High pressure will remain until early/mid next week when we have another “weather-maker” come through the area.

What That Means For Us

Today’s weather is going to look very similar to yesterday’s weather, but slightly more humid out there (gross, I know).

It’s gonna be hot and humid today and tomorrow as the aforementioned cold front approaches and then pushes through the area. Today, we can expect isolated showers and thunderstorms, but mainly just super hot and humid. Our area has been placed in a marginal risk for severe weather for today, so isolated torrential rain and possibly damaging winds could be a factor in today’s weather.

Tomorrow looks to be the wettest day thus far with scattered showers and thunderstorms off and on throughout the entire day. Again, we are in a marginal risk for severe weather (torrential rain, possibly damaging winds), so keep that in mind if you have any outdoor plans today or tomorrow. Neither day is going to be a total washout, but I would have a backup, indoor plan just to be on the safe side.
