Storms on Sunday Give Way to Fantastic Memorial Day

Forecast Discussion

Man, yesterday was quite the active day around south-central Kentucky. We had a few reports of damage around the area, as well as some high wind gusts and flooding reports, but the bulk of the activity slid just to our south over Middle Tennessee but the storm chances aren’t over quite yet.

That’s thanks to the final cold front that still has to work through our area. The only question is what kind of instability will it have to work with?

Right now, the models are indicating that our atmosphere will have at least some trouble recovering from last night’s storms thanks to some morning cloud cover. This means nowhere near the amount of storms, but we’ll have just enough energy for some of these storms to go severe along the front today.

If any of these storms happen to go severe, the main threat would be some damaging winds, a little bit of hail and lots of heavy rain. Flooding is just as big a concern if not more so after the soaking the region got last night.

Temperature-wise, we’ll be right around where we were yesterday, lower-80s but with somewhat less humidity. It’ll feel a bit humid but nothing like the “cut-with-a-knife” air of yesterday.

Sunday: Rain and clouds early with skies becoming partly cloudy by midday. Scattered thunderstorms possible in the afternoon, a few could go severe with a high around 80º. Clouds clear at night and our lows will fall to around 60º.

The cold front will have cleared the area, scouring out the moisture but leaving the nice temperatures.

Seriously, get outside and do some grilling, have a picnic, or just spend some time with the family. Get out and do something because Memorial Day will be the best day weather-wise of the week.

High pressure will be to our south, meaning winds from the west and southwest, giving it a slightly muggier feel, but a dry cool front should scour that out as it works its way across the region during the afternoon. Otherwise, another great day!

Tuesday: Mostly sunny skies stick around with a high around 81º. Partly cloudy skies after sundown with another pleasant low in the lower 60s.

  • Wake up: 🌤 61°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 74°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 80°
  • Evening time: 🌤 62°
