Wet Weather Sticking Around

Today: Mostly Cloudy & Isolated 🌧 – High: 76° – Overnight: ⛈️ Possible – Low: 58°

Southwest and southerly flow will be abundant across the region today. With temperatures already in the mid 60s, you can expect temperatures to climb despite cloud cover. Dew point temperatures currently around 50° should give way to mid 50s by this afternoon and evening. This will cause instability to increase in a relatively sheared atmosphere. Thus, isolated strong to severe storms will be possible this evening. The main threat with any stronger storms will be damaging wind and large hail.

As far as this afternoon, some isolated showers are possible. You can see a long line of rain showers located around the Mississippi River this morning. This will gradually move eastward throughout the day. Highs should be in the mid 70s under the influence of stout southerly flow. The latest HRRR model shows isolated showers this morning with heavy stuff this evening.

Showers and storms will likely continue overnight with a low in the upper 50s.

Sunday: Partly Cloudy & Isolated 🌧 – High: 70° – Sun Night: Partly Cloudy – Low: 55°

A trough will be exiting the region as a ridge enters the region on Sunday. During this transitional period, we may see some isolated showers throughout the day. However, temperatures look to be nice as they settle to around 70°. No severe weather is expected at this time.

Partly cloudy skies develop on Sunday night as the ridge becomes more developed. Low temperatures will drop back into the mid 50s.

Monday: Partly Cloudy & PM ⛈️ Possible – High: 75° – Mon Night: Isolated 🌧 – Low: 57°

The next trough will look to enter the region on Monday. The good news is that the wind field associated with the trough should begin to weaken as it moves in our direction. However, it looks like fairly rich moisture will be in place with dew points in the low 60s. This should develop some moderate instability, leading to another chance of isolated strong to severe storms. Once again it looks as if isolated strong winds and large hail will be the main concern.

Isolated showers will continue during the overnight hours on Monday into Tuesday. Lows will drop into the upper 50s.

Looking Ahead

In the long term, it looks as if the parade of troughs will continue well into next week. This will keep the warm temperatures around, as well as bring plentiful rainfall to the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. It looks as if the weather is here to stay, leading to an active start to April. I’m sure we’ll have our fair share of severe weather potential over the coming weeks as well.
