Temperatures Slowly Going Back Up, So Do Rain Chances

wxornotBG 3/15/17: Sunny and cold today, before a warming trend results in rain chances later this week…

Yesterday’s Weather

Make no bones about it, yesterday wasn’t pleasant. Temperatures remained well below average and there were even a few snow flurries that tried to sneak in. Not exactly what you think of in mid-March, especially with the warm weather we’ve had the last few weeks.

Forecast Discussion

As Pierce mentioned yesterday, I’m really glad I’m not forecasting for the northeast and the New England area…I mean, just look at Jim Cantore yesterday afternoon.

Our forecast looks decidedly less snowy but does look quite chilly. Thanks to a large dome of high pressure sitting over the northern plains, our winds have been breezy from a chilly northwesterly direction, bringing winter back for our little corner of the world.

Ah, Big Blue H, you never let us down! (Also notice that 977mb low over Cape Cod…yow.) (Pivotal Weather)

And that means, you guessed it, another chilly day. Just a hair under the 40ºF mark, you know, where we should be for lows this time of year.

Lows will continue to be below freezing tonight and for that reason, a Freeze Warning continues until Thursday morning. This cold is particularly rough because many plants already bloomed in the mild temperatures of weeks back and this could put certain commercial crops at risk.

But the good news is, we’ll only have to endure one more day of these as the high pressure begins to shuffle off to the east, ushering in warm winds from the southwest to help give our temperatures a boost on Thursday. We’ll bump those temperatures into the mid-40s for highs. Not exactly warm, but a little closer to average.

Unfortunately, the sunny skies can’t last either. Yep, there’s rain on the way.

A system moves our way for the day on Friday that throws showery weather our way. Not an all day rain but a nuisance nonetheless.

Today’s Key Points

  • One more chilly and slightly blustery but sunny day Wednesday.
  • Temperatures increase for Thursday but so do the clouds.
  • A system moves in giving Friday a shower chance.
  • But the good news is, the system will bring warmer weather with it so it can’t be all bad.

That just about does it for me! Thanks for checking into WxOrNotBG this morning, and be sure to follow @WxOrNotBG and @WKUweather on Twitter and like Landon Hampton on Facebook for the latest Bowling Green Weather information. I hope you have a terrific Hump Day!
