Here Comes the Rain…

Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Yesterday’s Weather

Good morning, Bowling Green! How’d y’all like yesterday’s weather? I personally thought it was a bit too muggy toward the end of the day, but it wasn’t the worst, I guess. According to the Kentucky Mesonet, Warren county’s high temperature was about 87°F yesterday, which is pretty nice for this time of year.

Today doesn’t really seem to be all that bad. High pressure has settled over states to our north, allowing a northerly flow of cooler air to infiltrate our region. This will keep our temperatures down for today with highs only in the low to mid 80’s under partly sunny skies.

For this afternoon and evening, some of you might a see a thunderstorm or two out your window. This is due to a front ever so slowly lifting northward with enough lift to bring about some storms. It looks as though the majority of the rain will be to our west, though. Once these storms pass, look for mostly cloudy skies with lows in the upper 60’s.

Sunday could potentially see some strong to severe thunderstorms. I’m still not completely sold on whether we will see much severe weather, so make sure to stay updated with the blog for Sunday’s post.

The Storm Prediction Center has put western Kentucky in a slight risk for severe weather and the rest of the state in a marginal risk for severe weather. The main threats are lightning and flash flooding with the possibility of damaging winds. Make sure if you are outside that you have a place indoors you can go to if a thunderstorm pops up.

A shortwave in the upper atmosphere looks to come through, moving a warm front northward. This will allow for a southerly wind flow, advecting warm, moist air into the region. Showers and thunderstorms look to pop up around the state during the day, with the majority of the heavy rainfall occurring in the late afternoon and evening. Dewpoints will be in the 70’s (a.k.a. MUGGY) across south central Kentucky, so there will be plenty of moisture to tap into.

Southerly flow is really going to increase those temperatures outside, making highs in the upper 80’s. Overnight, expect lows to be in the low 70’s.

I know, I know. I’m bummed too.

It looks like we’re going to have more rounds of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms throughout the day on Monday, unfortunately. Dewpoints will also be in the upper 60’s and low 70’s across the region, making it feel very hot and muggy. Yuck. Look for highs to be in the upper 80’s under cloudy, rainy skies. For the evening, lows will be in the low 70’s.

Extended Outlook

There is light at the end of this rainy, dark tunnel! Some slight rain chances look to follow us into the work week next week; however, these chances could diminish altogether. A ridge looks to start building in after the 4th, causing us to heat up a bit more and decrease our rain chances. Here’s hoping!
