Rain Returns to Bowling Green

Real-time BG Radar:

Thursday, May 19 – Sunny & Pleasant – High 74˚ / Thursday Night – Slight Chance of Showers Late- Low 57˚

This morning is starting off a bit chilly, as temperatures are currently in the mid and upper 40s across the region.

While this is the case, temperatures will rebound very nicely as we head towards the afternoon hours. Ample sunshine and dry conditions, thanks to surface high pressure, will make today one of the best days (at least weather-wise) in quite some time!

Temperatures will remain a few degrees below climate normals, due to a cool breeze from the northeast. However, temperatures in the 70s and sunny skies will make for a great day – so be sure to spend it outdoors!

(Teaser: Rain returns to the forecast, so you may want to take full advantage of today!)

As the shortwave ridge that helped increase our temperatures today moves eastward, the next system in play will push into our region. With every ridge (warm weather-maker), there’s a trough (rainy weather-maker)…

Clouds will increase overnight as this next system moves closer. Slight chance of showers will enter south central Kentucky late tonight.

Friday, May 20 – Showers & Storms – High 69˚ / Thursday Night – Showers & Storms – Low 58˚

The system we’re looking at is an upper-level low pressure center that will travel northeastward from Texas and into our region by Friday morning. The heaviest areas of precipitation are changing from model to model, but expect tomorrow to be a very wet day overall.

That’s right – get those rainboots ready!

Showers will become widespread and heaviest during the afternoon hours, but the precipitation will continue overnight before becoming a bit more scattered. With saturated ground from earlier this week already in place, localized flooding could become an issue across the Commonwealth – so stay weather-aware.

QPF
Quantitative Precipitation Forecast, Valid 7AM Friday through 7AM Saturday, via NOAA

Temperatures will be a bit cooler, as they are suppressed by the rain coverage Thursday. Overnight, lows will remain mild, in the upper-50s.

Saturday, May 21 – Scattered Showers – High 74˚ / Friday Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 53˚

The rain showers will continue into the day Saturday, but will not be so heavy or widespread. As the upper-level low rotates counterclockwise and moves northeastward, we’ll be hit again by some showers that extend from the center.

We’ll see a few breaks in the rain throughout the day, but the full relief won’t come until Saturday night. Beautiful, warm, and sunny weather returns to Bowling Green on Sunday.

On a different note, this is my last post as a contributor for Wx Or Not! I’ve been writing for the blog for almost 2 years now, and have grown greatly as a forecaster and communicator! I’m definitely going to miss this opportunity, but I graduated this past weekend from WKU with my B.S. in Meteorology, and now it’s time to go use it! Go Tops!
