Ups and Downs Continue For BG Weather

Real-time Radar:

Today: Cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms likely. Breezy, with highs around 63ºF. Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with lows around 28ºF.

Well, first of all, let me establish that the weather over the past three days has been AMAZING.

I would love for this stretch of weather to continue onwards, but alas, it is early March, and we can’t expect that. Today, we are looking at a fairly sharp shortwave trough rotating into the region, and forcing a surface low to our north.

We will be entrenched deeply in the warm sector, and this will make for a fairly warm morning across the region. Winds will shift to the southwest through the morning, and this will quickly advect warmer temps in. I have the highs peaking in the mid 60s right around noontime.

Right after that, though, the temps begin to start falling as the precip move into the region in association with the cold front. Ahead of this (and behind it), the pressure gradient should be fairly tight, so be careful when heading outside as you may get blown away.

Now, the wind fields associated with this low pressure are pretty impressive. However, at this time, the severe threat is not particularly high. This is due in large part to the lack of instability that will be able to develop across the area. The SPC has us under a Slight Risk of severe storms today.

I think that isolated severe reports are still possible across the region, so stay up to date on information.

Overnight, clouds look to remain across the region early on, but clear out to partly to mostly cloudy. Lows should be in the upper 20s.

Tomorrow: Partly cloudy, with highs around 43ºF. Wed. night: Partly to mostly cloudy skies. Lows around 35ºF

A much quieter day, that is for sure! I am pretty happy about that concept. We will be within the northwesterly flow of the trough that moved through last night, and will begin to see some ridging by the end of the day.

This will lead to temps being moderately cool, but not cold. In a dry and high pressure dominant atmosphere, look for skies to stay partly cloudy through the evening before our next weather maker sets its eyes on us. Highs will be in the low to mid 40s across the region.

Overnight, another shortwave will begin to propagate towards us, albeit weaker. A surface low will form, and clouds should increase throughout the night. This will limit the low to only the mid 30s, and that will occur early on as warm air advection begins to dominate late in the overnight hours. Precip should hold off until Thursday morning.

Thursday: Cloudy, with showers. Highs around 50ºF. Thur. night: Gradual clearing. Lows around 33ºF.

Thursday looks to be another crummy day, as a surface low moves to our north and kicks off some more clouds and showers across the region. Though we will be in the warm sector of this low, I don’t expect highs to get too high. There is a good bit of spread in the models, so I am aiming at temps being in the lower 50s for highs on Thursday.

Rainfall isn’t likely to occur all day long, but it will become a nuisance by the evening time as the front begins to move to our south. Overnight, lows will fall to around 33ºF under clearing skies.
